Organize this: Social Media & Real Life Connections

Organize this: social media & real life connections

The digital world is an incredibly powerful platform which is precisely why it should be used with much wisdom. And if you are an overthinker like me - who likes to know the purpose behind everything I do - setting realistic expectations is top priority. So what do all these things have to do with organizing?

Everything! Once and only after I have processed and organized these thoughts have I been able to set boundaries and joyfully use Instagram, Facebook, & other forms of social networking sites. I began forming convictions about this topic about only three years ago!! when I started feeling deeply confused about why I seemed to know everything about people via social media and simultaneously, know absolutely nothing about them at all - & vice versa. Modern loneliness anyone?

Check out some of my:

must have non-negotiable expectations from social media:

-strictly a tool for business exposure & to support other local businesses

-medium for artistry: creating stories & dabbling into editing is so much fun.

-tool to find local events/deals & latest trends

-optional form of entertainment

-a casual alternative to yelp and BBC News

-say hello to an old old friend because they were awesome & social media is our only form of contact now

-share, learn, or maybe even support others who are comfortable to post about the joys & pains of their personal lives online

Because I choose to be more private than not when it comes to my online life, I am overjoyed to say that my in-person, real-life relationships are thriving & that social media only fuels our bond & friendship as we share, connect, challenge & are inspired by each other’s life & work within and outside the online community.

What about you?

Have you navigated through these waters?

What are your expectations of social media if any?

Have you organized through these thoughts before?
